with Boito Sarno Architects
This project involves the meticulous internal remodeling of a listed 1920s Art Deco villa located in the picturesque Côte d’Azur. The villa spans 2,000 square meters across four stories. The intervention aims to preserve the original Art Deco charm while introducing contemporary design elements to enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The design approach emphasizes a seamless integration of historic character with modernity, focusing on volumetric clarity and a rich palette of materials and colors. A combination of marble stone, terrazzo, gold leaf, and Venetian plaster defines the interior, with bold textures and contrasting colors unifying the space.
The double-height living area is defined by a striking blue calcite marble volume, housing a Carrara marble and stainless-steel kitchen. Terrazzo flooring embedded with Carrara marble, mother-of-pearl, and gold leaf tile inserts adds intricate detail to the space. The contemporary intervention includes two modern glazed pavilions that highlight the stunning Mediterranean views. One of these, the dining pavilion, features large sliding screens that open to create an open-air veranda effect. The bar area is enveloped entirely in green marble from the Alps, accented with intricate brass metalwork. In the bedrooms, walnut herringbone flooring creates warmth, while the bathrooms feature mosaic tiles covering walls, floors, and ceilings, paired with Carrara marble fixtures and vanity units.
The main dressing room features a series of marble portals, mirror ceilings, and mirrored glass wardrobes with black aluminum frames, creating an interplay of light and reflection. The project exemplifies a respect for historical craftsmanship while embracing modern design. The glass pavilions serve as a bold contrast to the villa's traditional architecture, ensuring its legacy endures while meeting contemporary needs. This redesign celebrates the villa’s Art Deco heritage and its unique position on the Côte d’Azur, creating a residence that is both deeply rooted in its past and forward-looking.
